What did your experience entail?
‘There’s something that the Kop wants you to know!’ This Anfield Stadium & Muesum Tour is fantastic and an absolute must for all diehard reds!
On a cold and crisp December afternoon myself and Ian visited Anfield Stadium to relive the glory days of Liverpool FC teams, old and new!
Before you even enter the stadium, you are instantly under the spell of Liverpool Football Club, with murals of famous players and mangers adorning every street corner of this infamous, football mad city. On entering the stadium grounds, you are met by statues and images of the clubs most successful mangers & captains. From Shankly to Paisley, Hughs to Gerrad it is easy to see why this club has enjoyed generations of success at the highest level. Sadly, success has not come without a price and tributes to those fans who never came back from the games at Hillsborough and Heysel are equally and respectfully shown as part of the Anfield back story.
Once inside the stadium, we were greeted by our tour guide who was as enthusiastic as the Kop in full voice, and what he did not know about the history of LFC was not worth knowing about! We were shown around all parts of the stadium, which at the time of our visit, was just unveiling the new Anfield Road Stand, adding an additional 7,000 seats, and taking the stadium capacity to 57,000.
We then made our way down to the changing rooms, press room and pitch. Of course, the highlight of this part of the tour was touching the infamous ‘This is Anfield’ sign above the tunnel door, which has always been a boyhood dream of mine, finally allowing me to follow the traditions of my idols Rush, Dalglish & Fowler onto the hallowed Anfield turf. To top it all off, we got to sit in the world-famous Kop stand, reliving Trent’s corner against Barcelona, Gerrards ‘beauty’ of a goal against Olympiakos and Fowlers last gasp header against Newcastle to win the game 4-3!
After the stadium tour you are taken through to the Muesum, which you can walk through at your own pace, giving you time to soak up all the glory days and work out a way of get all 6 ‘old big ears’ European cups to one shot!
To finish off our afternoon, we popped across the road into the world famous Arkels pub for a ‘match day’ pint (or two!). YNWA.
What did you enjoy the most?
Touching the world famous ‘This is Anfield’ sign.
